This week we were delighted to welcome local author Rosie Pickering to Blue Windmill Day Nursery, to mark World Book Day.
Rosie spent time with the children sharing one of her stories and talking a little about how books are created. The children listened carefully, joined in with the storytelling and asked thoughtful questions afterwards.
Meeting people in the local community
Experiences like this help children see that stories come from real people and real ideas. Meeting an author can make books feel even more exciting and encourage children to explore stories, language and imagination in their own play.
Storytelling is an important part of nursery life. Through stories children build vocabulary, develop listening skills and begin to understand the rhythm and structure of language. Visits from authors and storytellers bring this to life in a special way.
We are very grateful to Rosie for taking the time to visit the nursery and share her work with the children. It was a lovely experience for everyone involved.
