staying safe
Secure Entry
Blue Windmill Day Nursery has a secure entry process so that only authorised people can enter the building, ensuring that the we are staying safe at all times. Visitors are signed in and supervised, and collection passwords are used to make sure children leave with the right person.
Staff remain vigilant throughout the day, with clear routines for arrival and departure. The layout of the nursery allows good visibility between rooms and garden areas, helping us to maintain a calm, safe flow throughout the day.
Food Allergies
We understand that allergies and intolerances can be a real worry for families. Every child’s dietary needs are discussed with parents before they start, and care plans are kept up to date as children grow.
Allergen information is clearly displayed for each meal, and our team are trained in safe food handling and cross-contamination prevention. Children with allergies are always served separately and supervised by familiar staff.
Nursery Data
Your family’s personal information is treated with the same care we give to the children themselves. All data is stored securely in line with GDPR requirements and used only for essential nursery purposes.
Access to digital systems and paper records is restricted to authorised staff, and information is never shared without parental consent unless required for safeguarding or legal reasons.
Safeguarding
Every member of our team has a duty to protect children from harm. All staff receive safeguarding training and understand how to recognise and report concerns promptly.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead oversees practice, supports the team, and maintains strong links with local safeguarding partners. We also work in partnership with parents, keeping communication open and respectful at all times.
Emergencies
We have clear procedures for dealing with medical or environmental emergencies, and all staff are trained in paediatric first aid. Emergency drills are practised regularly so that children and adults know what to do if a situation arises.
Parents are informed immediately of any significant incident, and all actions are recorded. We keep well-stocked first-aid kits, maintain emergency contact details for every child, and review our procedures frequently.
Hygiene & Tidiness
Cleanliness and organisation help children feel comfortable and confident. Toys and equipment are cleaned and checked regularly, and our daily routines include hand-washing before meals.
Staff model good hygiene habits and teach children how to care for their shared spaces. The nursery is cleaned each day so that every room is fresh, staying safe and ready for play.
